We return to the San Juans and base out of Telluride.

2018 — Telluride, CO

Sponsored by Slee Offroad

Our 2018 event in beautiful Telluride was another one for the record books. In total we had around 40 vehicles and nearly 100 people who participated in this year’s event.

Elite Land Cruisers kicked things off in style by sponsoring our opening event at the New Sheridan Bar in downtown Telluride. Todd and crew were generous with their time and money, buying round-after-round of drinks along with gift bags featuring a snapback Elite Land Cruisers hat.

200-Series Land Cruisers were crawling, sometimes out of control, throughout the San Juans from Thursday through Sunday. Some trail highlights include Matt (ethernectar) leading a large group over Imogene and Black Bear that included several folks who were new to the area as well as to wheeling in general. Well done! The lead story from the first day is without a doubt group four’s epic adventure which consisted of the entire Alpine Loop plus a twilight run down Black Bear which you can read about in this article published in Toyota Cruiser and Trucks magazine. Yet another group tackled moderately-technical Mineral Creek and Poughkeepsie Gulch before heading back via Corkscrew Pass.

On day two Jackson and Amory from Slee Offroad led a skills and technique training day in the national forests above Telluride on and around Last Dollar Road. A small group heading up Mineral Creek encountered a sticky situation that involved a pretty technical recovery; fortunately, all vehicles and people came out unscathed thanks to group efforts. You can read more about it on Matt’s website. Two groups experienced Black Bear on the second day and both were greeted by a herd of sheep hanging out on the east side of the pass. After a busy couple days of wheeling most folks opted for a lighter day on Saturday. Separate groups did Clear Lake and Alta Lakes while another took on Imogene.

Official event activities concluded with the Slee Offroad sponsored dinner at Fat Alley BBQ in Telluride. The food was great while the drinks and conversations flowed as people recounted the highlights of the event and speculated what the fifth anniversary event in 2019 would bring.
